What It Takes To Be A Disciple Of Christ: 3 Things You Need To Learn

Love God More than Anyone Else

We express love in different kinds of ways. In human relationships, we express our love by saying I love you to the person we love. Giving gifts; caring, hugging, helping, and sometimes smiling are our expressions of love. But what about how we express our love to God? What love signals do we do to show our love to God? The scriptures never failed to tell us how we show our love, especially to God. 1 John 5:2 “By this, we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.” 1 John 5:7  “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.”

God is therefore pleased when we obey His word as a way of demonstrating our love for Him. Loving God has a good effect on other people and us because when we show our love for God by following His word, we begin to love others better and improve as individuals. Loving God and following His commandments will ultimately be advantageous to us and everyone around us. Therefore, our love signal to God is by obeying His word that is how we should express our love to Him.

Must be Willing to Suffer Hardship

Christians should not be shocked when difficulties arise. For God always reminds us that “ In this world, you will have trouble” as it says in John 16:33. Hardships may include: temptations, heartbreaks, depression, disappointments, and rejection. These are forms of hardships that test our faith in God. There is also hardship you can encounter within your church when having a ministry. Handling a group of people with different attitudes, perspectives, and characteristics can be hard. As church leaders, we often have inner struggles that we necessarily keep to ourselves. It’s so hard to know what details you should and shouldn’t share with those you lead. When we minister the gospel, any adversity and suffering we endure conforms to and reveals the nature of Christ’s atoning work through suffering. Moreover, this suffering we dealt with in the work of the ministry, simply shows the listeners the love of God in Christ.

Just like what Jesus did. Although He knew what could cost Him in being a disciple of the Father, He endured all of this for He knew that the reward for this would be the redemption of mankind and a seat at the right hand of God. In the same way, as Christians, we can find hope to endure all the hardships we may face if we consider the reward Christ has promised us.

Adversity benefits both us and others when it comes from the hand of God.

Forsake all to Follow Him

All of us knew what it feels like to let go in order to gain. We let go of unnecessary things in order for us to gain a better future someday. Students, they let go of hang-out time or enjoyment in order to achieve good grades. Our brothers let us give up hours of sleep just to gain a high level for their video game. For us Christians, we gave up our jobs and earthly services in order to gain opportunities to serve God. One of the main truths of true redemption is that we lose everything in order to obtain everything. Philippians 3:7  “But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 More than that, I count all things to be lost in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ.” You are being described by the Lord. Despite having amassed material wealth, some people discover Christ to be a far more priceless treasure. In order to obtain that treasure, they cheerfully trade everything they possess. Christ encourages sinners to give up all for redemption by doing this.
